Keep Scarborough Connected!

TTCRiders

When Line 3 Scarborough RT (SRT) closes in 2023, at least 7 years before the planned subway extension is due to open, over 35,000 daily SRT riders will be forced to use replacement buses. This indignity is the predictable outcome of years of dishonest political promises and underinvestment in Scarborough, where most residents are racialized and the proportion of people living in poverty is higher than the Toronto average.

The SRT is a unique Scarborough landmark that should be kept in public hands and transformed into a rapid busway with green public space for walking and cycling. Scarborough residents will be able to use this historic space and transportation connections for decades to come.

TTCriders is a membership-based organization of transit users. TTCriders surveyed approximately 300 Scarborough RT users about their preferred replacement options over the summer of 2021 after Toronto City Council and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) decided to close the SRT in 2023. This report presents and interprets the survey data, makes recommendations for how to mitigate the negative impact of the SRT’s closure, and explains how we got here.
